How To Reignite Your Job Search

Change the focus of your search

Chances are you started looking for something rather specific – a role similar to your current one perhaps, maybe even with the same title. If this approach hasn’t proven fruitful, think about how you could change the focus to cover more areas. It might be that nobody’s recruiting for an accountant in the tech industry, but there are plenty of accounting positions in media.

Tighten up your CV

Your CV may have seen the inboxes or desks of many different employers by now, so think about how you can make improvements to it.  If you’re refining your job search, consider doing the same to your resume – sending out the same one for every application is not recommended, if you’re failing to get results, it should be the first thing you look at adjusting.

If you haven’t used one already, write a concise and direct opening statement. It should detail what you want to achieve and what you have to offer, in no more than a couple of sentences.

Restart the research

We’re sure you did a fair bit of studying when you started your search – brushing up on the relevant industries and looking for companies you might be able to approach. Well, with a few months having passed, it really is worth adding to the knowledge you built up.

Put networking back to the top of your priority list and use the tools available to get your name out there. Physical events are great but you also have Twitter and LinkedIn, both of which give you the chance to start and join conversations that could lead to big opportunities, all from the comfort of your own sofa!
