Hours: Monday - Thursday 07:00 - 16:00, Friday 07:00 - 15:00
The Company
A well-established UK manufacturing business operating within the construction materials sector is seeking a Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer with an interest in automation to join its engineering team.
The company has been operating for several decades and supplies specialist roofing and daylighting products to major distributors and large commercial construction projects across the UK. With a strong manufacturing heritage and stable customer base, the business is currently going through a modernisation phase, including a brand refresh and investment into improving production efficiency.
As part of its long-term strategy, the company is planning to introduce greater levels of automation across its manufacturing processes over the next three years, creating an opportunity for an engineer who is interested in playing a key role in this transition.
The Role
- This position will suit a hands-on multiskilled maintenance engineer who enjoys working in a manufacturing environment while also contributing to engineering improvements and automation projects.
- The role will be approximately 70% maintenance focused and 30% engineering/design support, working closely with the internal design team to support machinery upgrades, improvements, and automation initiatives.
- The site currently operates with limited automation and PLC-controlled systems, but there are plans to expand automation capabilities across production lines, including improved process control and automated tracking systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Engineering
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across manufacturing machinery.
- Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults on production equipment.
- Support the reliability and performance of continuous production lines.
- Maintain maintenance records and ensure compliance with safety and engineering standards.
- Automation & Continuous Improvement
- Assist with the development and implementation of automation improvements.
- Support fault-finding on PLC-controlled equipment.
- Contribute to engineering projects focused on improving efficiency and reducing downtime.
- Assist with the development of automated processes within the manufacturing environment.
- Design & Engineering Support
- Provide support with mechanical design work using CAD where required.
- Assist with machinery upgrades, modifications, and new equipment installations.
- Work collaboratively with internal engineering and design teams to deliver improvement projects.
Candidate Requirements
Essential
- Multiskilled maintenance background (electrical and mechanical).
- Experience working within a manufacturing or production environment.
- Electrical qualification with 18th Edition.
- Recognised mechanical engineering qualification.
- Basic exposure to PLCs or automated machinery.
- Ability to work effectively within a small engineering team.
Desirable
- Experience supporting automation or process improvement projects.
- CAD design experience.
- Experience working with continuous manufacturing processes.
