Environmental, Health & Safety Manager
Birmingham (Multi-site UK role) - the position is primarily based in Birmingham, with travel to other UK sites, once a month.

An established and growing industrial manufacturing and distribution business is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety Manager to take ownership of the EHS agenda across its UK operations. This is a stand-alone leadership role with the opportunity to shape safety culture, strengthen environmental practices and drive continuous improvement across multiple sites. The organisation supplies to a wide range of industries and operates several facilities across the UK. With strong foundations already in place, they are now investing in developing a more structured and proactive EHS function.
The Opportunity
You will be responsible for leading the Health, Safety and Environmental strategy across the business. You will work closely with senior leadership and site management teams to ensure best practice is embedded across all locations, while also supporting key strategic projects including ISO 14001 implementation and the future ambition of ISO 45001 certification. This role offers significant autonomy and the chance to make a tangible impact on safety culture, systems, and environmental performance.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Leadership:
- Act as the lead responsible person for Health & Safety across the organisation
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and safe systems of work
- Lead incident investigations, near miss reporting and corrective actions
- Maintain accurate accident and incident records and report to relevant authorities where required
- Conduct risk assessments, inspections, and internal audits across sites
- Chair health and safety committee meetings and promote a positive safety culture
- Ensure contractors and suppliers meet required safety standards
Environmental Management:
- Support the management and continuous improvement of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
- Maintain environmental policies, registers, and compliance documentation
- Lead environmental reporting requirements
- Manage waste compliance and environmental documentation requests from customers and suppliers
Training & Compliance:
- Deliver health and safety inductions and training programmes
- Maintain training records and employee skills matrices
- Support the development of structured training and onboarding processes
- Work with HR on occupational health requirements and compliance
My client is looking for a confident and proactive EHS professional who enjoys working autonomously while influencing stakeholders across multiple sites. You will be comfortable operating within industrial or manufacturing environments and capable of building strong relationships with operational teams.
Essential Experience
- Proven experience in an EHS / HSE management role
- Background in manufacturing, engineering, heavy industry, distribution, or factory environments
- Experience working with ISO 14001 and knowledge of ISO 45001 frameworks
- Strong understanding of UK health & safety legislation
- Experience with risk assessments, audits, incident investigations, and compliance reporting
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong IT skills with the ability to analyse and present data
Desirable
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification
- Internal auditor training
- Experience supporting environmental or sustainability initiatives
