SF Recruitment are working with a leading global energy business to recruit a HVDC simulation Model engineer. An exciting time to join this global player, who have just secured significant new business resulting in some large-scale projects over the next few years. 

We are looking for someone with a proven background in HVDC simulations, control and protection modelling, or HVDC system studies. You will work directly on real project deliveries, developing and validating models that are essential for system design, performance analysis, and commissioning support.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Develop and refine HVDC simulation models and engineering tools for system-level studies and project delivery.
  • Create accurate virtual representations of HVDC control and protection systems for performance evaluation and test environments.
  • Conduct EMT and dynamic simulations to support system design, grid compliance, and converter behaviour assessments.
  • Collaborate with project engineering, control, R&D, and customer stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver technical solutions.
  • Validate and test system models, troubleshoot performance issues, and implement improvements based on project needs.
  • Produce clear technical reports, study documentation, and model specifications.
  • Ensure best-practice modelling aligned with industry standards, methodologies, and delivery requirements.


Required Background

  • HVDC experience is essential - hands-on modelling, system studies, control & protection, or simulation implementation.
  • 4+ years of experience in power system simulation or HVDC engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of control theory, EMT modelling, and dynamic system behaviour
  • PSCAD / EMTDC (strong preference) , PSSE, PowerFactory, EMTP-RV, Hypersim, Dymola, PSLF, PSS® NETOMAC, or similar
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, able to present complex technical results clearly.
  • Proficient in English, able to work independently, and comfortable taking technical initiative
