SF recruitment are working on a retained basis with a fledgling manufacturing business based in the north-east Birmingham area to recruit a purchasing manager.

This is a greenfield role with a remit to define & develop organisational procurement processes & practices, to ensure the business has a robust procurement function heading into a period of sustained growth.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop & deliver the company procurement strategy, across all direct & indirect spend areas.  
  • Formulate and execute efficient procurement strategies tailored to fulfil the organization's requirements.
  • Identify and vet dependable suppliers, evaluating their capacities, and negotiate advantageous terms and conditions. Maintain a robust database of approved suppliers using SAP.
  • Achieve significant cost optimisation through strategic procurement initiatives.
  • Undertake significant evaluation of supplier base & supplier contracts.
  • Identify & mitigate risks within business supply chain, whilst also striving for sustainability.
  • Grow & lead the procurement team within the function.
  • Formulate & direct a plan for significant inventory reduction as business needs currently dictate. Oversee effective stock management & inventory levels to ensure seamless production process.
  • Always ensure effective procurement process governance & relevant regulatory compliance
  • Lead on continuous improvement initiatives that will enhance the purchasing function & wider business operations.

Skillset Requirements:

  • Demonstrated expertise in Purchase management, showcasing achievements in strategy development & function management within a manufacturing environment.
  • Manufacturing industry experience essential
  • Able to play key role in MRP implementation, SAP experience desirable.
  • Qualifications or advanced comprehension in supply chain management or business administration.
  • Familiarity with pertinent industry regulations and adherence to compliance standards.
  • Exceptional negotiation, leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities, both tactical and strategic.
  • Proficient utilization of Procurement management software and tools
